There is a man on Utaban right now who is playing various foodstuffs like wind instruments. So far he's done a kinda spiky green vegetable (shaped like a cucumber but not one), a crab leg, and this odd hollow tan thing that shows up often in izakaya appetizers.

He was getting recognizable tunes out of them too O_o....

It's probably an okinawan vegetable called the Goya. Often used in their classic dish Champloo.
